I can't honestly put into words what an unreal time I had whilst at Maafushivaru... it certainly is a very special experience which I think will be very difficult to compete with. It is the epitome of everything which represents the stereotype of the perfect Maldivian location, and I'd jump back on the plane to there tonight if the opportunity presented itself!

The island was such a dream (I think the photos speak for themselves but I'll continue to rub it in a little more)... warm turquoise water with the most incredible reef that a myriad of tropical fish inhabit, powder white sands, vibrant vegetation, water-villas which are fit for Pinterest, not to mention how intimate and quiet it is despite only being 350 meters in length, complete with a private island only a short boat trip away for an even more unique and remote experience! It is impossible to take a bad photo at Maafushivaru as everything is just so impressive and picturesque, let's just say it created a lot of 'pinch me' moments!

The island itself feels so romantic and I can understand why it's such a popular location for couples to take a break or visit for their honeymoon. The staff completely go that extra mile to ensure you're always happy and I don't have a single bad thing I could possibly say about my stay... actually, I don't think I could even say anything of the average for Maafushivaru, everything completely blew my expectations!

We were greeted at the airport by hosts who checked us in for our seaplane and led us to a lounge where we relaxed until we embarked on our flight. We were able to catch up on emails as we waited as there is internet access in the lounge and also all refreshments in the lounge were complimentary, which is exactly what you need when you have had a day of travelling!

The 25 minute seaplane ride itself was enough to make my whole holiday, flying over incredible views of the atolls below... something I will appreciate for the rest of my life!

There are also beach bungalows but we stayed in one of their gorgeous water suites. The suites are spacious (very instagrammable...), bright and are complete with the most incredible views you could ever imagine and an area to intimately sunbathe and take a dip from. We were greeted with some fresh fruit and bubbly (which never goes a miss), and we ended up spending the first hour or so just taking everything in!

The shower led out onto the balcony, so as you showered you could take in the surrounding views!

Just when we thought our experience couldn't get any better and that we couldn't believe our luck, we were invited to spend a night alone on Maafushivaru's private island Lonobu. Not only did we get to spend a night on a friggin' private island with a hot tub, bluetooth speaker, and incredible views... but we also had a chef get the boat over to join us for breakfast and dinner on the beach!

The island is situated on yet another beautiful lagoon and I think it is definitely a must see if you're staying on Maafushivaru. You can arrange with reception for morning and afternoon boat trips over to the island on a complimentary basis, and then in the evening you can arrange the overnight getaway that we experienced... which I can't even begin to give justice in words of how special it was. Not to mention the fact you can even arrange to have your vows renewed on Lonobu!

Hands down this was one of the most surreal nights of my life and made such an incredible holiday even more special.

The rest of our stay we just completely relaxed, snorkelled the most incredible reefs I have ever seen, and drank copious amounts of delicious cocktails! Maafushivaru is also extremely special for those who are interested in snorkelling or diving (both options) as you are able to see the Whale Shark. The island also has an infinity pool, edged with fibre-optic lights to admire at night, available for people who prefer a cooler swim than in the sea.

Diverse excursions are also available, with options to visit the local island of Dhangethi, fishing trips and also sunset cruises. If watersports also take your fancy, there is range of windsurfing equipment, catamarans, kayaks, pedaloes and paddle-boards.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, on our last night Maafushivaru arranged for us to have a private candle lit dinner on the beach, which was cater-made to compliment our vegetarian diets, with our waiter managing to surprise us with the most amazing origami made from local shrubbery as he came out with every course. Despite this being a very special experience, our other meals at the island were also (almost) equally as impressive, with a chef on hand to rustle up your favourite food for you, along with their vast buffet on offer.

I've honestly never been so heartbroken to leave a place and I'm sure I left a little part of my heart at this island! Transfers home went smoothly to Malé, having a seaplane arranged early for our departure from the island, with the staff yet again going that extra mile to make us an earlier breakfast to send us on our way with full tummies!

Thank you to Maafushivaru and the lovely staff at the island for having us and being so accommodating  - we couldn't possibly have had a better stay (or have been more upset about leaving!).
